The Senior Project Manager - Mechanical Engineering Plumbing is responsible for providing planning, design, and construction administrative and management support on multiple infrastructure, building systems, low-voltage, fire alarm/fire suppression, and building cooling upgrade projects in design-build/progressive design-build project delivery methods. This position is full-time and based in Sacramento, CA.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Senior Project Manager – MEP will provide leadership, direction and management of correctional project teams and ensure on-schedule completions within or below budgets in accordance with contractual obligations and adherence to design standards and criteria. Scope of duties include:
- Oversee the development of RFQ/RFPs for HVAC and fire alar/fire suppression projects for both criteria phases and design-build/progress design-build phases.
- Assist the criteria architect develop criteria and design documents for HVAC and/or fire alarm/fire suppression systems.
- Oversee, coordinate, and manage all consultant MEP design deliverables, ensuring all projects deliverables are delivered on time and meet the owner’s requirements, standards, and guidelines.
- Oversee, coordinate, and manage consultant construction administration efforts.
- Assist with overseeing and managing the design-build entity during the pre-construction and design-build phases of HVAC and fire alarm/fire suppression projects.
- Establishment of Project Management Plan, program requirements for all areas of the project, and monitors the draft and final deliverables for adherence to these criteria
- Ensure that the project meets or exceeds goals established in this plan
- Plan, direct, supervise, and control the execution of all technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the assigned project
- Primary contact and liaison for owner and principal partner entities for the contract, design, systems, procedures and related deliverables
- Develops project specific procedures and documentation, and consults with Owner on design and construction contracts and related A/E systems for the project
- Ensures contracts, drawings, estimates, and specifications comply with design and construction project codes, standards, and requirements
- Obtain, maintain, and manage data, information, communications, and approvals required by project and company requirements between owner, architects, engineers, and other project-related entities
- Represent owner, project and related parties in public forums and meetings
- Manage project controls, cost, and performance activities and procedures, project logistics, organization, systems and project closeout
- Lead in project meetings to include documentation, administration, and tracking of relevant information and statuses
- Coordinate, direct, and monitor activities of construction management staff, contractors, engineers, architects, and related performing entities
- Manage bid and award phase services, as may be required by the client
- Work with other team members to follow budget, schedules, and plan for all elements of a project
- Work with management to devise and execute action plans to rectify potential cost overruns or delays or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work
- Maintain and/or review current and timely change orders
- Monitor and report to management on the progress of all project activity within the program, including significant milestones, and any conditions, which would affect project cost or schedule
- Conduct periodic site visits to verify project progress.
- Oversee project closeout process as required
- Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or equivalent is required
- 17 years project/construction management experience.
- 5 years experience in managing large programs with projects having construction values in excess of $50 million (not cumulative).
- 5 years experience in correctional facility construction, large multi-building campuses, infrastructure public works or large commercial projects.
- 5 years experience in HVAC systems and/or fire alarm/fire suppression systems design and installation.
- Experience and strong knowledge of HVAC system design principles, equipment performance and commissioning requirements, and related specifications, codes, and standards.
- Experience and strong knowledge of all aspects relating to fire alarms/low voltage and fire suppression systems and related specifications, codes, and standards.
- Valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California Architectural Board or Mechanical or Professional Engineer by the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists preferred.
- Design-Build or Progressive Design-Build experience preferred.
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects experience preferred.
- Knowledge and application of construction estimating, cost, project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering/construction principles, techniques, materials, applications, and practices.
- Understanding of contracts, documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Document Management Systems and Adobe Acrobat Professional, Bluebeam, Procore and other project management software systems.
- Proven ability to perform in a management capacity.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations
- May assume other duties as required/needed
Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The Salary range for this position is $145,000.00-$161,000.00.
