Job Description

The Director of Business Development is primarily outwardly focused on the markets and clients that are core to our business and our planned growth. You will work with the Area Manager and other staff to identify client and partner targets and develop strategic account plans in our core and expanding markets. This role leads, coordinates, orchestrates, monitors, and communicates the overall strategy and execution of the identified plan. The Director of Business Development acts as a key representative of Vanir, its interests, and works to create and sustain strong relationships with prospective and existing clients and partners.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently participates in key industry events, conferences, and client-specific events.
  • Identifies new business prospects and makes initial client contact.
  • Provides an integrated business development strategy that focuses on Vanir’s core markets.
  • Collaborates with Area Manager to lead the ‘Go/No-Go’ decision-making process.
  • Prioritizes pursuit/target focus; provides input to market segment Executive Directors.
  • Communicates with key clients and stakeholders on the progress of project opportunities as they develop.
  • Leads and supports all client relationship management tracking to create stronger relationships with former, current, and prospective clients; expands on effective client service.
  • Supervises, manages and mentors business development staff through ongoing coaching, training, feedback and motivation to develop a high performing team.
  • Works with technical staff to develop proposals and scopes of work and estimate fees.
  • Working with the marketing team, directs and leads proposal efforts from inception to completion.
  • Assists in determining sales objectives to meet firm-wide goals
  • Leads, coordinates, orchestrates, and monitors the overall strategy and execution of the identified project plan.
  • Consistently follows the organization’s safety policy, promoting a positive and collaborative safety culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Construction Management, Communications, or a related field
  • 10+ years of related experience, including at least 5 years of marketing or business development in the A/E/C industry
  • Extensive knowledge of business development; construction methods and quality practices and procedures; principles and practices of RFP/RFQ proposal and interview response; and principles and practices of construction cost estimating, conceptual budgeting, and scheduling
  • Experience in presentations, public speaking engagements, and networking
  • Proven supervisory and team leadership skills, including coaching, engaging and developing employees.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Active membership in industry organizations such as CMAA, DBIA, APWA and the like is a plus.
