    Job Description

    The Senior Heavy Civil/Structural Cost Estimator will support and work with management, and estimating staff in the review of project plans, requirements and specifications and providing cost estimates. The Estimator shall have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, and costs. Qualified individuals will have estimating experience with large heavy civil projects. Light link rail experience is a positive. Must be confident working with estimating teams on projects of varying sizes including projects of over $100 million and possess the ability to support the value engineering and change order process. Individual must be self-motivated, possess strong communication/interpersonal skills and be confident in his/her ability to develop and manage their assigned portion of the estimate.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the accuracy, integrity and completion of estimates at a variety of phases to include but not be limited to design, conceptual, preconstruction, procurement and during construction. Monitors, evaluates, and ensures compliance with systems and procedures.
    • Reviews drawings, prints, specifications, contracts, RFPs/RFQs and all other construction documents for estimate related activities. Provide responses to estimate needs as required.
    • Utilizes and administers to a variety of estimating means to include current market pricing, regionally specific pricing, labor usage and analysis and other pertinent financial and performance impacts to the estimate activities
    • Obtains, maintains, and manages data, information, communications, and approvals required by project and company requirements between owner, engineers, contractors/subcontractors, or other project related entities
    • Coordinates, directs and monitors activities of contractors/subcontractors, engineers, and related performing entities to the specifications or conditions of the estimate
    • Assists with, analyzes and evaluates proposals from contractors, subcontractors and other entities
    • Participates in project meetings to include documentation, administration, and tracking of relevant information and statuses
    • Participates in negotiations when applicable and necessary
    • Supports business development activities for pursuits, proposals, submittals and resources for cost and performance
    • Provides all services and objectives for the application of Vanir’s quality services
    • Performs other duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in technical disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent technical area of study
    • 10+ years of experience in cost estimating, management of construction, engineering on heavy civil projects
      o Or, non-degree holders must possess a High School Diploma/GED and 15+ years of experience of management on construction, engineering on heavy civil projects with a plan to advance their education.
    • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer is preferred
    • Must possess knowledge and application of construction estimating, cost, project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering and construction principles, techniques, materials, applications, and practices
    • Understanding of contracts, documents, drawings, and specifications. Ability to use a variety of current take-off systems and instrumentation
    • Applied, successful experience in the areas personnel interaction in professional settings
    • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products, and experience with cost and project related systems such as Prolog, Sure Track, and Primavera. Advanced programs in take-off and quantities are necessary
    • Ability to represent Vanir and related entities in a professional manner at all times to ensure company policies and procedures as well as compliance to all applicable laws and regulations
    • Excellent written and oral communication
