Job Description

 

Provide design phase management as part of a delivery team for OSHPD certified hospital addition/renovation. Project includes new Parking Structure, Central Plant, ER/Maternity Tower, Drive and signage, Loading dock and Front entry relocation.  The project is $220M over a 6 year delivery period.  The Hospital is a stand-alone 60+ year old facility located in North San Diego. The Design Manager will work on behalf of the client (the Hospital) and along with the Design/Build Entity to ensure that the clients’ needs are met as defined by the Criteria Documents prepared by the Architect. This positons is in the Healthcare sector.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages alongside Construction Professionals through the design build method the design review process of a large hospital construction project
  • Manages multiple projects, including engineering seismic / critical repair, and retrofit projects through interaction with Architects and consultants to ensure timely completion of these projects
  • Provides Architects with clear and consistent direction with regard to goals and objectives, standards, sites, schedules, and budgets for each project
  • Establishes and follows an effective and efficient design review process to ensure that the design meets the overall goals and objectives of the client for each project
  • Reviews design changes submitted to ensure project remains within budget
  • Monitors project planning and design status to report findings, recommendations and updates to the client
  • Performs others duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering required
  • 10 or more years managing OSHPD projects in California (public sector Healthcare facilities) is required
  • New ground up construction experience on projects equal to or over $100 million is required
  • Design/ Build delivery experience required
  • Strong knowledge of phased delivery method to execute make ready projects as well as the main new building elements is required
  • Strong knowledge of central plant design and construction with Co-generation is preferred
  • Experience with LEED construction/design process is preferred
  • Certificate of Registration as an Architect in the State of California, or Professional Engineer license preferred
